soul vocals. „My music comes direct from
the Heart. Even more importantly when I sing",
says Emo about the spiritualistic vibe of his
vocal abilities.
Emo created this fresh new album "This
is my Home" in co-operation with top-notch
Danish musicians, artists and producers, combining
guitar, drums, bass, percussion, keyboards,
and horns with that great voice. Whether in
the groove of minimal soul like Peven Everett's
or D`Angelo's or in the dubswing thing like
Horace Andy and Lee Perry, „This is my
Home" captivates the listener with every
track. In doing so Emo, who also played in a
jazz group as a teenager and developed and nurtured
his musical talents, pays tribute to many of
the artists that influenced him along the way,
such as Sly & Robbie, King Tubby, Sly &
the Family Stone, Johnny Guitar Watson and Al
Green However never satisfied with just the
retrodub or soulfunk - that's not his way. Emo
also incorporates other musical styles like
the dark downbeats of Massive Attack or the
pure disco soul of Grace Jones. Through careful
consideration and refinement, Emo produces a
new club sound that is truly amazing, adopting
effortlessly his voice to every twist and turn
in style. This flexibility was obviously a contributing
factor when artists like Boozoo Bajou (Stereo
Deluxe), Nuspirit Helsinki (Guidance Recordings),
Les Gammas (Compost Records) were eager to collaborate
with Emo on the album. Check out the Rhodes
lines by Kasio (Nuspirit Helsinki) on the jazz
monster High in the Sky, the words and good
vibes dropped by Daddy Ous (Nuspirit Helsinki)
on the Gotan Project-like "I Want my Love",
and the flavour of Djosos Krost and Les Gammas
on „This Is My Home" and First Time
Experiences.
Live on stage, Emo presents a six-member soul-dub-downbeat
extravaganza and delivers to the world a dubspectacular
that is currently the best that Northern Europe
currently has to offer.
